OpenAI - Research Scientist, Governance

#artificialintelligence

The Governance Team's mission is to develop late-stage, credible AGI strategy and governance plans. Pursuing this mission involves developing, analyzing, and ultimately taking action toward concrete and realistic interventions that could contribute to ensuring that the development and deployment of increasingly powerful, general AI models go well for humanity. If you enjoy owning research projects end-to-end, thrive in roles where the ambitious entrepreneurial pursuit of open-ended goals is rewarded, and are strongly motivated to contribute to the roll-out of advanced general AI systems going well, you will find our work here uniquely challenging and rewarding. We are looking for experienced research scientists with a proven track record of delivering high-quality research autonomously and collaboratively. In this role, you will produce novel insights, ideas, and proposals that shift the needle on the clarity of our roadmap toward governing increasingly powerful, advanced AI models.

Paige Dickie develops Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital strategy for Canada's banking sector at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Toronto. She began her career in management consulting -- much to the disappointment of her father, an engineer -- because she had earned advanced engineering degrees in biomedical and mechanical engineering. Dickie initially worked at McKinsey, the global consulting firm, helping multinational financial institutions across a range of fields from data strategy and digital transformation to setting up innovation centers. She recently joined Vector to lead what she describes as "an exciting project with Canada's banking industry. It's an industry-wide, sector-wide, country-wide initiative where we have three different work streams -- a consortium work stream, a regulatory work stream, and a research-based work stream." Knowledge@Wharton interviewed Dickie at a recent conference on artificial intelligence and machine learning in the financial industry, organized in New York City by the SWIFT Institute in collaboration with Cornell's SC Johnson College of Business.

Accelerating Biopharma Discovery with Machine Learning Point B

#artificialintelligence

A biopharmaceutical company wanted to launch an ambitious machine learning (ML) experiment as part of its corporate strategic initiative. The goal: to better understand ML and define an ML strategy to help bring new therapeutics to patients in less time. The entire project, which included multiple work streams, had a six-month timeframe from scoping and resourcing to execution. Due to the fast pace and high visibility, leadership knew that a senior project leader was essential to success. Our client engaged Point B to lead the initiative and help lay the foundation for an ML strategy that would accelerate discovery and innovation.

Continuous Integration for Data Science · Pivotal Engineering Journal

This is a follow up post on Test-Driven Development for Data Science and API First for Data Science focusing on Continuous Integration. Last time we wrote about the importance of test-driven development for data science, especially in the context of what we call smart applications. There are many examples for smart applications, for example, Google's Inbox has a feature that is called Smart Reply which uses machine learning to suggest three possible answers to your incoming messages. Another instance of a smart app is Apple's Photo app on the iPhone. While taking a photo, it recognizes faces and places through machine learning and automatically relates them together so that searching for photos becomes much smarter.
